Notices
The Listening Room is a free, non-commercial web player made by Abhilash Hazarika. It has no ads, no subscriptions and no sign-up.
How stations are played
- Each station's audio streams directly from that station's own public stream to the listener's browser, the same way as opening the station's own web player. The Listening Room does not host, copy, record, re-encode, relay or store any audio, and offers no way to download or record it.
- Stations that limit their streams to certain countries keep doing so: nothing here works around those limits.
- In the United Kingdom, stations from the open directory are limited to UK broadcasters, following the 2019 Court of Appeal ruling in Sony Music v TuneIn. The hand-picked crates and the ambient sounds are unchanged.
- Song and artist names, where shown, come from the station's own public now-playing information.
- Station names, frequencies and other marks belong to their owners and are used only to identify the stations. The Listening Room is not affiliated with, sponsored or endorsed by any station, network or music service. Record sleeves are generated artwork, not station logos.
- Beyond the hand-picked crates, stations come from Radio Browser, an open, community-maintained directory. If a listing there is wrong, it can be corrected at the source too.
Station owners and rights holders
If you own or manage a station, or hold rights in what it plays, and want your station removed from The Listening Room, its details corrected, or have any other concern, email hello@ahazarika.com with the station's name or stream address, or use the flag button next to Share while the station is playing, which fills the details in for you. Requests are acted on promptly, usually within a few days, and a removed station stops appearing everywhere in the room (its crates, search, trending, nearby results and shared links).
Credits and licences
- Station directory: Radio Browser (community-maintained, open data).
- Weather data by Open-Meteo.com, used under CC BY 4.0. The weather is shown as-is (temperature, conditions and wind), turned into the scene and sounds you see and hear.
- Now-playing information from each station's public feed, for example StreamTheWorld (Triton Digital), SomaFM, KEXP and ABC.
- 3D graphics: three.js (MIT licence). Streaming: hls.js (Apache License 2.0). Their licence texts are included with the site.
- Ambient sounds such as rain, waves, wind, birdsong and the crackling fire are generated in the browser; no recordings are used.
Using the room
The Listening Room is for personal listening. Stations come and go and streams change, so it is provided as-is, without any guarantee that a station will be available. Privacy is covered in the privacy policy.
